Ah. Is the beach still standing? I know- grief is for the ones who remain. But it's still.. I suppose I shall be fine. Even if I have to figure out what to do with all that he left me.
[ There's a little shift as Caliban just opens a portal in the same way Magnus use to do- the sort that seemed like a tear in the universe. Caliban stood in the midnight theatre for a few moments before he walked through the portal and let it snap close behind him as he stepped into the living room. A bottle of wine hanging from the demon's hand as he reached up to brush his long blond hair behind one ear with the other.]
[ John's sitting there on the couch when he sees that portal appear, so used to it in the two years that he's been here. When the demon steps through — when he catches sight of the bottle hanging from his one hand and the soft way he announces his arrival, John rises from the couch and steps over to him. Quiet. They've both dealt with a number of losses in the past few months and now, it seems like it's just the two of them left and it almost has him wondering who, between the two of them, will be the last one left here.
Hands in his back pockets, he licks over his lips, ducking his head for a moment, before he sighs and looks up to the demon, expression soft and a little melancholy. ]
Just you and me now, huh?
[ Huff of laughter there on his lips, he shrugs, glancing off for a moment. ]
[ Caliban's honestly not entirely sure what to say- normally he's the one here who's supporting the other when something...shifts like that. When Alec left. Twice. He was there- even when Magnus left, he'd been hurt but it wasn't like this. Which was a little weird for him when he considered Nate once defended a man who wanted to see him dead to the ground. ]
A demon and his firebird. Not so bad.
[ He pointed out as he reached a hand up to brush his fingers lightly down John's chest with a soft hum as he stepped closer.]
[ Is it not so bad? He doesn't know. He hates that he's come to care for people here and, in that time, he's nearly lost them all.
Taking the other's hand into his own, he slides his fingers through Caliban's and drops their held hands down, still holding it as he stands there with him and stares to the demon before him. ]
Yeah. Not like either of us get a say in when the other leaves. Or you leaving again.
[ There's a little flick of his fingers as he keeps their hand connected as the other stares up at him. His other hand curled around the shaft of the bottle as if he was tempted to take another sip of it. ]
A cruelty of this city that might even beat my own kingdom.
[ He pointed out softly as he gave a little soft furrow of his eyebrows.]
[ He hadn't even considered just how close they were to the more traditional celebrations the city seemed to adore. The demon takes a soft breath and gives a little nod. ]
Though I'll admit we don't exactly celebrate this time much down in hell, either. So perhaps I'll always be a little lost during this time.

Not particularly.
It stings more than I'd...
I'd thought.

i went to the beach to do it
and i know
we just have to tell ourselves it's better they're not here
right?

Do you wish to be alone or..?

But you're certainly a good place to start.

And here I am, firebrand.
[ He mused softly.]

Wonder how long that'll last.

Perhaps a question best not asked, my love.

[ How on earth can either of them feel in the mood to do any sort of holiday celebrations with the number of people they've both lost this year? ]

[ A shrug of a shoulder, he sighs, looking down to their hands. ]
At least we have each other.
no subject
Well, they did have each other. And there was a certain magic between them that the demon never wanted to lose.]
And you will have me as long as I can give you such a thing.

[ Lips brushing back over Caliban's, he sighs then, letting his head drop for just a moment, looking to their hands again. ]
Let's just... try not to make any promises.
[ Because neither of them can keep them and he doesn't know how many more broken promises he can handle. ]
no subject
[ There's an urge there to speak in Caliban's usual hyperbolic way he sometimes gets but the other was *right* about it all.
After losing yet another one among them- not making anything they couldn't keep too was properly the best move they could make.]
Well...You still have me either way.
